You've returned to the office in sneakers, you're sipping your coffee through a straw, your diary is full of aperitifs until the end of the month... These are the very clear symptoms of an epidemic that returns every year at the beginning of September: back-to-school denial. At Lashile, we haven't escaped it either. And far from trying to cure it, we've instead decided to maintain this sweet condition by doing everything we can to keep our pretty tanned skin for a few more weeks. Here are our 8 best tips for prolonging your tan after summer, and pretending that the holidays aren't quite over
8 tips to prolong your tan after summer
This can vary depending on your skin type, but your tan usually lasts between two and four weeks after your last day of fanning out on a sun lounger, allowing your skin to naturally renew itself. However, with a few easy tips, you can still enjoy it for a little longer…
Moisturize your skin
You may have noticed: after summer, the skin is often very dry because of the sun, but also because of the salt water from the sea or the chlorine from the swimming pool. Good hydration then helps to strengthen the hydrolipidic film that has been weakened during exposure and to regain soft skin, in addition to prolonging the tan. Morning and evening, get into the habit of applying a cream full of active ingredients such as aloe vera, shea butter or argan oil, which restore the skin barrier and retain moisture. After each shower, on slightly damp skin, use a body oil to seal in moisture.
Use a gentle body scrub
The preconceived idea that exfoliation removes tan is completely wrong. On the contrary, it is an excellent way to maintain the radiance of beautiful caramel skin. About once a week, this beauty gesture rids the skin of dead cells that tend to give a dull and rough appearance to the tan. It is also a gesture that improves skin hydration and , ultimately , displays an even and more luminous tan for a few more weeks. Opt for a gentle exfoliation and gestures that are just as gentle. No need to rub, the exfoliation will not be more effective and you risk damaging your skin.
Safe sun exposure
If you live in an area where you can enjoy a beautiful Indian summer, continue to laze around in the sun to stimulate melanin production and prolong your beautiful coloring. By drinking coffee on a terrace, picnicking in a park, gardening... Any occasion is good for a last dose of tanning. But be careful, always avoid the hottest hours and protect your skin properly with an SPF 30 or 50 cream.
Avoid hot showers
Avoid turning your bathroom into a sauna because hot water dries out the skin by removing the natural oils that retain moisture. Opting for lukewarm or cool showers for those who are less sensitive to the cold will help keep your skin supple and help prolong the glow of your tan. A little extra tip: use a cleansing shower oil for extra hydration.
Take dietary supplements
If you started taking our Good Sun tanning gummies at the beginning of summer to prepare your skin for the sun , don't hesitate to continue your treatment after your vacation to support your tan. For beautiful golden skin until after the start of the school year, we generally recommend taking them for a period of 3 months. Their unique formula with a delicious peach flavor is based on a complex of plant phytopigments based on copper, vitamin E and selenium which prolongs the tan and also helps to repair the damage caused by the sun. A health and beauty boost, the secret to a radiant and sublime complexion.
Eat a diet rich in beta-carotene
Putting some sunshine on your plate is also an excellent way to maintain your tan. In the morning, take the time to prepare juices in the extractor based on fruits and vegetables rich in beta-carotene such as carrot, apricot or mango. Also consume foods rich in vitamin C (citrus fruits, kiwi), vitamin E (almonds, avocado) and selenium (Brazil nuts, fish, shellfish). Natural allies for a longer-lasting tan, which remains radiant in the long term.
Hydrate yourself regularly
Just as it is important to hydrate your skin every day, it is essential to drink plenty of water every day. Ideally, drink two liters of water per day, without waiting until you are thirsty. If you have trouble reaching this goal, a good tip is to flavor your water with slices of lemon, cucumber, watermelon, strawberry, raspberry, etc. or to add a small drop of the syrup of your choice from time to time. On the other hand, avoid excess alcohol and caffeine which can dehydrate the skin and dull your tan more quickly.
Cheat with makeup
Unseen and unknown, bronzing powder is a great product to discreetly enhance the skin's complexion. For a very natural effect, choose matte (rather than iridescent) and apply it to bare skin or after foundation where the sun usually leaves its mark, i.e. on the forehead, nose, cheekbones and chin.
