The ingredients
For the dough:
- 500 g flour
- 60 g sugar
- 1 sachet of baker’s yeast (or 10 g of fresh yeast)
- 200 ml of lukewarm milk
- 80 g melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 pinch of salt
For the filling:
- 100 g of soft butter
- 150 g of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder
For the icing:
- 100 g icing sugar
- 2 tablespoons of milk
Instructions
1. Prepare the dough
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar and pinch of salt. Add the yeast. If you are using fresh yeast, dissolve it in the warm milk first.
Gradually add the warm milk, melted butter and egg. Knead the dough until it has a soft and smooth texture. Leave to rest for 1 hour in a warm place , covered with a clean tea towel. The dough should double in volume.
2. Prepare the filling
While the dough is resting, mix the softened butter, brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl until creamy.
3. Shape the rolls
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a lightly floured work surface to form a large rectangle about 1 cm thick.
- Spread the cinnamon topping evenly over the entire surface.
- Roll the dough lengthwise to obtain a long sausage. Cut it into thick slices of about 3 cm.
- Arrange the slices in a buttered or parchment-lined dish, spacing them slightly apart so they have room to rise. Let them rise again for 30 minutes .
4. Cooking
Preheat the oven to 180°C . Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes , until golden brown.
5. Add the icing
While the rolls are cooling slightly, prepare the icing: mix the icing sugar and milk until you get a smooth and slightly thick consistency. Generously coat your still warm rolls for an ultra-delicious result.
